Mr. Bernard  Edmond Prudhomme

Thomson, GA -- Bernard Prudhomme, age 88, formerly of Northside Atlanta, passed away on July 5, 2017 at his home in Thomson, GA from neuromuscular degenerative dementia. He was born February 2, 1929 in New York City to immigrant parents, Paul Arthur Prudhomme and Marie Jeanne Martineau Prudhomme, from Montreal, Quebec.

Bernard grew up in Manhattan and Long Island, NY with his grandparents, Edmond and Clothilde Martineau. He was a 1950 graduate of Columbia University in New York with a B.A. in Chemistry and minor in French literature, and a 1963 graduate of Rutgers in New Jersey, with a M.A. in Library and Computer Science. He served in the US Army 1951-53 as a French translator in Germany. He was employed by International Flavors and Fragrances in New Jersey, 1953-1969, as a technical services librarian. He then moved to Atlanta, GA in 1969 and was employed by the Coca-Cola Company for 22 years, as the Technical Information Services Manager in the Corporate Research Department. He retired in 1990.

Bernard was the loving and faithful husband to two very grateful wives, Ruth Berl, from Baden-Baden, Germany, for 21 years, prior to her death in 1975, and Jacqueline Plant Fincher from Atlanta, GA, for the past 35 years prior to his death. Bernard was a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church, the Thomson Rotary Club, and Friends of the Library in McDuffie & Fulton County. He was a faithful contributor to numerous charities, particularly ones that helped the poor, the sick, and the hungry throughout the world. He was an accomplished philatelist with an extensive stamp collection and a devotee of classical music, especially the works of Amadeus Mozart. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Plant Fincher, also formerly of Northside Atlanta, his son, Stephen Prudhomme (Fran) and grandson, Paul Prudhomme of Savannah, GA, his sister, Paulette Mullinax (Mark) of Bedford, VA, his three step-children, Jacqueline W. Fincher, MD (James Lemley, MD) of Thomson, GA, Andrea Reichenbach (Mark) of Pleasanton, CA, and Ronald Fincher, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Roswell, GA; his other grandchildren, Laura Lemley, MD of Chapel Hill, NC, Rachel and Garret Reichenbach of Pleasanton, CA, and Sarah and John Fincher of Roswell, GA; niece Lise Martin of Roanoke, VA, nephews Mike Ambrose of Pasadena, CA, and Chris Ambrose of Lansing, Michigan, and many cousins in Canada.

A funeral service will be held at Thomson First United Methodist Church in Thomson, GA on July 8, 2017 at 10:30 am.  Family will be greeting friends and relatives at the church one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow at 4:00 pm at Arlington Cemetery in Atlanta, GA where a brief graveside service will be held.  Following the burial, family will have a gathering at St. John United Methodist Church in Atlanta, to greet local friends and colleagues.  The family especially honors caregivers from Family Care Inc and Regency Hospice, and especially Dorothy Smalley. The Thomson Rotary Club will be honorary pallbearers. Memorial donations may be made to Manna Inc. of Thomson, GA, Friends of the Library, or the Alzheimer’s Association.  Curtis Funeral Home of Thomson, GA is in charge of arrangements.
