Charles "Roy" Land

Thomson - Mr. Charles “Roy” Land, 85, beloved husband of Mrs. Madge Reed Land, died Thursday, January 5, 2023, in the Piedmont / Augusta Hospital. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023, in the Thomson Second Baptist Church, with Rev. James McCollum and Rev. Charles Reese officiating. Burial will be in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. 

Mr. Land was a native of Bastonville, Glascock County, GA, but had lived in Thomson most of his life. He was a retired from the U.S. Army, after 21 years of service.  He was a member of the Dearing Church of God. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Tankersley Land, his second wife, Idell Hawkins Land; his son, Charles Land, Jr.; his three brothers, Tom Land, Bill Land, and Gene Land; and several half-brothers and half-sisters. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Madge R. Land; four daughters, Susan (Glenn) Edwards, Gail (Roy) Taylor, Lisa (Phil) McCorkle, and Hope (Aaron) Cobb; two sons, Shawn (Lisa) Land and Greg (Stephanie) Sims; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. 

Pallbearers will be Troy Land, Tommy Land, Jeff Land, Gary Chambers, James Schaefer, Robert Burkey, and Scott Hodges. 

In lieu of Flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Farmers State Bank, c/o the Shawn Land Kidney Fund. 

Friends may call at the residence of Phil and Lisa McCorkle or the Curtis Funeral Home The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
