Raleigh, N.C. - Mr. Damon “Brent” Verner, 50, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in the Transitions Lifecare (Hospice), in Raleigh, N.C. after an extended stay at UNC REX Hospital.
A graveside service will be at 12 noon, Saturday, October 31, 2020, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, with Dr. David Lambert officiating. Due to Covid-19, there will be no visitation.
Mr. Verner was a native of Thomson, Ga., but had resided in Raleigh, N.C. for over 20 years. He graduated from Thomson High School in 1988. He was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church. Brent served in the U.S. Army, and upon being discharged at Fort Bragg, NC at the end of his enlistment, started a career as web developer at Fayetteville Observer newspaper, then, software developer at a Dotcom consulting company in Raleigh, and later as software developer/technical consultant at a publishing company in Cary, NC. He liked to travel and especially enjoyed his business trips to the UK and New York. He enjoyed bicycling, playing guitar, attending band concerts, and playing golf.
Survivors include his mother, Edna McGahee Verner; his brother, Keith Verner (Jenny); nephew, Darby Verner; niece, Arlie Hinson; aunts and uncles, James O. and Cornelia Summers and Gary and Meariam Verner; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred J. Verner, Jr., grandparents, Columbus and Mary McGahee, and Fred Sr. and Pauline (Polly) Verner.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, social distancing and masks will be observed.
