Dearing- Mrs. Gladys P. Hammett, 85, beloved wife of Mr. Harold Hammett, entered into rest Thursday, March 22, 2018, in University Hospital Augusta. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Tom Peebles and Mrs. Lelar Phillips Peebles.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, March 26, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Mike Sutphin, Frank Thigpen and Roy Frierson officiating. Interment will follow in Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Hammett was a native of Warren County, but had lived in Dearing for many years. She was a seamstress and a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Beulah Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, James Peebles, Bill Peebles, Dot McNair, Ellen Russell and Louise Newman. Mrs. Hammett is survived by her husband, Mr. Harold Hammett, Thomson; a son, Wayne Hammett (Missy Garner), Warrenton; two sisters, Vera Allen and Lois Tankersley, both of Thomson; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Allen, Jerry Tankersley, Ronald Russell, Mike Peebles, Larry Newman and Terry Englett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sam Kitchens, Aubrey Jones, Mansel McTier and Lee Roy Usry.
Friends may call at the Curtis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
