Gibson - Mr. John Barry Brassell, 67, entered into rest Sunday, June 23, 2019, at his residence. He was the son of Betty Sue Oxford Chalker of Gibson, Georgia and the late Sam David Brassell.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 28, in Knowles Chapel United Methodist Church, Sparta, Ga., with the Reverend Darrell McGinnis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Brassell was born in Hinesville, Georgia, but lived in Gibson for many years. He was retired from the United States Navy, with 15 years of service; he worked on Navy sea system hydraulic repairs and was a navy Recruiter Canvasser. He was a member of Knowles Chapel United Methodist Church.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory a daughter, Cathy Reynolds (Randall) and granddaughter Cate Reynolds; his son Sam Brassell (Amanda Dill), of Sparta, Georgia; his mother, Betty Sue Oxford Chalker, and his siblings, Susie Reddick (Jimmy), Sparta, Georgia, Ronnie “Red” Chalker (Debbie) Mitchell, Georgia, Charlene Ellis (Ricky Sr.), Tennille, Georgia, and Betsy Chalker of Warrenton, Georgia.
Friends may call at the residence of his daughter, Cathy Reynolds or at the Curtis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at Knowles Chapel United Methodist Church.
