Avis was a faithful lifetime member of Fort Creek Baptist Church. She served many years as Sunday School teacher, Discipleship Training teacher, VBS teacher and WMU Director. Until her health failed, she was chair of the bereavement committee. She was a true servant to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In addition to being a homemaker, she served as a volunteer with McDuffie County Farm Bureau as Women’s Committee Chairperson and District 4 Women’s Chair for over 30 years promoting and educating the community about farming.
She volunteered many years as the Golden Harvest food distribution coordinator for McDuffie County both in Thomson and Dearing.
She also worked as a poll leader with the voting elections department for McDuffie County for many years. She enjoyed working with flowers in her yard, grass cutting and tutoring her grandchildren with their school work. She was very active until dementia took over her mind.
