Thomson - Rev. C. E. “Butch” Baston, Jr., 74, beloved husband of Mrs. Pat Baston, died Tuesday, November 15, 2022, in the Piedmont University Hospital in Augusta.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 18. 2022, in the Pine Grove Baptist Church with Mr. Jim Allen and Rev Sam Henderson officiating.
Rev. Baston was a native of Langley S.C., but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Business Degree in Accounting. He served in the National Guard. He was retired from the IRS as a special agent in criminal investigations. He was a past member of Rotary and the Thomson Kiwanis Club, where he served as President. He graduated from the Southeastern Seminary in Louisville Ky. And was ordained as a Baptist Minister in Garfield Baptist Church in Garfield Ky. He was called to Thomson as the pastor of Pine Grove Baptist Church and also many other Baptist Churches in the area. He was a founding member and help start the local food bank called Manna. He spent his life serving people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Earlene Baston, his sister, Sharon Hyman, and his brother, Harold Baston. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Mrs. Pat Baston, Thomson; his two daughters, Mrs. Susan (Britt) Enfinger, Monroe and Mrs. Dianna (W.C.) Grimes, Twin City; a son, Mr. Michael (Angie) Willis, Greenville S.C.; his sister, Claire Carpenter, Mt. Airy N.C.; his brother, Mr. Tommy Baston, Mt. Airy, N.C.; and his 5 grandchildren, Chase Enfinger, Austin Enfinger, Drew Grimes, Kinley Grimes, and Samantha Willis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paul Anderson Home or to the charity of one’s choice.
Friends may call at the residence. The family will receive friends after services at the church.
