Thomson- Mr. George David “Buddy” Russell Sr., 89, beloved husband of Mrs. Jeannette McGee Russell, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2026, in the Pine Grove Baptist Church with Mr. Jim Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Russell was a native of McDuffie County. He was retired having worked as a Cruiser for the Weathers Wood Co. in Waynesboro. He had also retired as the owner / operator of Russell’s Live Bait. He was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Mildred Russell and his sister Betty Russell. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jeannette McGee Russell, Thomson; his two daughters, Tina Hill and Lisa (Mike) Newsome, both of Thomson; his son, George David (Claire) Russell Jr., Thomson; his sister, Mrs. Joyce Blevins, Thomson; his 7 grandchildren, Casey Hill, Adam Hill (Bridgett), Melisa Newsome, David Russell III (Macy), Jamie Russell, Shannon Watson (Morris), and Jack Russell (Erica); and his 6 great-grandchildren, Cason, Adley, George, Mac, Hallie, and Lovett.
Pallbearers will be Adam Hill, David Russell III, Jack Russell, Morris Watson, Rob Blevins, and Mike Newsome.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Megan Hunter.
Friends may call at the residence or at the Curtis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church on Monday.
