Augusta - James Henry Langham, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on February 11, 2024.
Jimmy was born in Augusta, GA on November 26, 1946 and was the only child of Melba Boyd and James H. Langham, Sr. He grew up in Dearing, GA and later graduated from Thomson High School in 1964 where he built lifelong friendships that exist even today. He attended the University of Georgia and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. It was around the fraternity house Jimmy discovered his love of Motown music and dancing. He was a loving husband, devoted father, avid hunter, and exceptional golfer who shot his age more than once. Jimmy was also an old school quail hunter whose passion was less about shooting a bird and all about providing his dogs the greatest opportunity to be rewarded for their work. Meanwhile, his favorite source of pride was watching his sons, Franklin and Jim, excel at golf after he had taught them all he could.
Jimmy began his professional career working with his father in the retail clothing business. In 1978 he and his wife, Mary Boswell Langham, built and established one of the first businesses of the “miracle mile” on US Highway 78 at I-20 in Thomson, GA. His father-in-law always said, “He could talk water up a hill.” That quality served him well as President of the Rotary Club, church deacon, and selling suits and blazers.
Jimmy is survived by Mary, his wife of 50 years, his sons Franklin (Ashley) and Jim, and his four grandsons, Parker, Carson, George, and Oliver.
The funeral service will be graveside on Friday, February 16 at 2:00 pm at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, 2235 Washington Road, Thomson, GA 30824. Visitation will be immediately after the service at the grave site.
