James "Sonny" E. Burnley

Thomson - Mr. James E. “Sonny” Burnley, 85, died Friday, March 17, 2023, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023, in the Faith Baptist Church, with Dr. Don Widener, Rev. Chad Widener, and Dr. Danny Burnley officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Mr. Burnley was a native and lifelong resident of McDuffie County. He was a retired  owner and operator of his own construction business. He was a graduate of Thomson High School. He served in the Army National Guard for 9 years and he was member of the Faith Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Helen Wells Burnley and several siblings. Survivors include his three daughters, Gloria Burnley-Shelton, Martinez, Lisa (Ronald) Kitchens, Woodstock, and Susan Burnley (Lee) Lindsey, Thomson; his son, Tony (Susan) Burnley, Thomson; his sister, Wylene (Bill) Inman; his two brothers, Tommy (Tommie Ann) Burnley and Dr. Danny (Laverne) Burnley; his 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Burnley, Baili Burnley, Jason Burnley, Andy Stephens, Chad Priddy, and Lee Lindsey.

The family would like to thank the Meals on Wheels program and the team from Regency Hospice, especially Amy Cranford.

Friends may call at the Curtis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday night at the Faith Baptist Church.
