Janet (Newsome) Whitaker

Thomson - Mrs. Louise Janet Newsome Whitaker, 87, widow of Mr. John H. Whitaker, died Wednesday, May 8, 2024, in the Keysville Nursing Facility.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Brother Stacy Williford officiating.

Mrs. Whitaker was born in Keysville, GA, and made her home in Thomson for many years. She was a retired Sales Associate with CVS. She was a devoted Christian and is in Heaven. She was a member of the Gibson Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nannie Lou Newsome; her son, Lester “Lee” Walden, Jr.; her granddaughter, Jaci Cooper; her sisters, Helen McCowan, Corrine Hobbs, Avice Hinton, and JoAnn Barrow; her brothers, Ralph Kitchens, Dillard Kitchens, and Don Newsome; and her daughter-in-law, Ceil Walden. Survivors include her two daughters, Kim (Mike) Sims, Stapleton, and Brenda Axon, Dearing; her three sons,  Randy (Donna) Walden, Dearing, Rickie Walden, Thomson, and J.J. Cooper, Gibson; her sister, Virginia Sibley, VA.; her brother, John E. (Ceil)  Newsome, Jr., Titusville, FL; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of the Keysville Nursing Facility. The family requests that donations be made to the Gibson Church of God.

The family will receive friends after the services on Saturday.
