Jeannette Newby Land - 89 Years Old
Born: April 5, 1934 Deceased: December 23, 2023
Jeannette was proceeded in death by her husband John Land, her parents Paul and Katrina Newby, her three sisters Pauline Newby, Kathleen McDaniel and Anne McLeroy, her daughter, Linda Holt and her grandson Matthew McLeroy.
Jeannette was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother and a special friend to those who knew her. Originally from Thomson, where she spent the first part of her life working for the Thomson Company before getting married and moving to South Carolina. While in South Carolina she lived in Myrtle Beach for a brief time before moving to Hilton Head Island where she lived for 30 years. While at Hilton Head she worked for many years at the local Red and White supermarket with her favorite boss, Mr. Gene Martin. The years in Hilton Head were special to her as she enjoyed spending precious time with her grandchildren at the beach, attending St. Andrew by the Sea United Methodist Church and enjoying her longtime friends.
After retirement Jeannette and John moved back to Thomson in 1993. Once back in Thomson, Jeannette stayed very active with her church, Young Memorial Methodist, going to the YMCA to stay fit and healthy and spending time with her lifelong friends and neighbors. She really enjoyed traveling with her sisters to many beautiful locations such as the mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee and ultimately to Alaska. She adored her time with her family, especially during the holidays where she spent many hours cooking and baking all of her favorite dishes the best being her banana pudding.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Cramer, her son Paul McLeroy(Catherine) and her daughter, Shirley Saxon(Danny). She is also survived by four grandchildren, Allen Cramer(Courtney), Teresa Griswell, Rick Cramer(Susan), Katrina Stanley(Ben) along with six great grandchildren, Ryan Cramer, Ally Poholsky, Kayla Maddox, Carson McLeroy, Megan Cramer and Rylee McLeroy and four great-great grandchildren, Dawson, Oaklynn, Riverlynn and Wyatt Maddox.
A special thank you goes out to Jeannette's niece Rudean Robiston and Becky Pentecost for their loving care and compassion as they assisted in caring for her in her final year.
