Thomson- Mr. Larry Delma Morris, 81, died on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Brandon Wilde Pavilion in Evans, Ga. He was a lifelong resident of Thomson, Ga.
Born on May 16, 1942, in Washington, Ga., he was the son of Obie Farris Morris and Nellie Ruth Norris Morris. He was predeceased by both his parents, two half-sisters, Berma Morris Davenport of Fayetteville, NC, and Erin Morris Mills, of Concord, NC., and a half-brother, Cliatt Farris Morris of Thomson
Mr. Morris is survived by two nieces, Berma Jean Davenport Kincaid of Charlotte, NC, and Anne Davenport Godley of Goldsboro, NC, and a nephew, Russell E. Davenport, Jr. of Fayetteville, NC. In addition, countless other extended family members survive him.
Mr. Morris was a 1960 graduate of Thomson High School and a U.S. Navy Veteran. He worked for the CSX Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He raised beef cattle and farmed hay at his home place on White Oak Road. He served on the McDuffie County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 17 years. The recipient of several honors. In 1999 he was named Outstanding Conservation Farmer for McDuffie County by the Board of Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors. In 2006 he was presented the Cattleman of the Year Award for the Little River Cattleman’s Association, and in 2009 he received the Conservation award from Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society. He was a lifetime member of Marshall Baptist Church, located within the shadows of the Morris property.
A memorial service for Mr. Morris will be held at Marshall Baptist Church on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 11 a.m., officiated by Dr. Mark T. Sellers, pastor. A private interment will be held for the family. Following the service, the family with greet friends at the church.
