Laverne C. (Cheely) Shelton

Warrenton- Mrs. Laverne C. Shelton, 83, beloved wife of Mr. Thomas Shelton, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Doctors Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2025, in The Thomson First Baptist Church, with Dr. David Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Shelton was born in Warren County and had lived in Augusta for many years, before returning home to the Mesena area. She was a graduate of the Bowling Business School in Augusta. She worked for over 50 years at the Curtis Baptist Church in Augusta, where she handled many different jobs. She was a member of the Thomson First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Terrie Gribanow; her parents, Aubrey and Velma Cheely; and her sister, Nancy C. Thompson. Survivors include her Husband, Mr. Thomas Shelton; her son, Mr. Christopher (Theresa) Shelton; and her two grandchildren, Annemarie Gribanow and Aubrey Gribanow.

Pallbearers will be Sheryl Shelton, Edward Shelton, James Atkins, David Gribanow, Aubrey Gribanow, and Lynn May.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:50 a.m. in the Atrium of Thomson First Baptist Church on Monday prior to services.  Friends may call at the residence or at the Curtis Funeral Home.
