Thomson - Mr. Luke Martin, 85, beloved husband of Mrs. Bonnie Martin, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021 in the University Hospital / Augusta.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Lambert officiating. Burial, with full Masonic Rites, will be in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Martin was born in Kankakee, Ill. to Cecil and Wilma Martin. He was a Navy veteran. He served as a police officer for 11 years in Illinois. He sold insurance and worked at the WLAK radio station in Chicago. He moved to Thomson and helped get WTWA started. He retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs for this area District as the VA Representative. He was a member of the local V.F.W., where he was the District Commander and also served as the National Rep for the State of Georgia due to his outstanding work. He was a member of the Thomson First Baptist Church, where he was member of the L.W. Moore Sunday School Class. He was a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, a sister, and his son, David. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bonnie Martin; his two daughters, Tami (Donnie) Story and Sherry (Joey) Allen; his brother, Larry (Paula) Martin, Monroe, La.; his 5 grandchildren and his 9 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.
The family request that Donations be made to the Organ Fund at the Thomson First Baptist Church.
