Margie Greene Obituary

Margie Greene

After a long journey with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, Margie Virginia Holloway Greene went to be with the Lord on Saturday February 9th, 2019.

Margie was born to Ina Louise Morris Holloway and Ross Morgan Holloway in Lincolnton, GA on February 18th, 1940. She graduated Thomson High School in 1958 and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA and Augusta College. She was married for 25 years to Clegg Lamar Greene and later divorced.

She was predeceased by her mother, father and brother, Randall Morris Holloway and is survived by her two children Jeffery Lamar Greene (Sally Greene) of Rock Hill, SC and Paula Greene Painter (John Painter) of Marietta, GA. Also surviving are 6 Grandchildren: Joshua Harrison Greene, Morgan Painter Rybka (Conrad Rybka), Samuel Carter Greene, Virginia Anne Painter, Simeon Ross Greene, and Pressley Dianne Painter. Her grandchildren lovingly called her “GG” for Grandma Greene.

Margie was a person of great faith and spent her later years serving others at First Baptist Church Woodstock. She was a member of the Worship Choir, Solid Rock Singers, The Pebbles Choir, the Cancer Support Ministry, the Food Service Ministry, and the “Together Loving Christ” women’s Sunday school class. Her years of serving the church go back to the 70s when she was the first female Deacon to be elected at Franklinton Baptist Church in Franklinton, North Carolina. Through the years she also served at First Baptist Church of Danville, Virginia, First Baptist Church of Gaffney, South Carolina, and First Baptist Church of Greenwood, South Carolina before moving to Woodstock, Georgia.

Margie always had a servant’s heart even through three battles with Cancer during her lifetime.  She was a tireless and selfless volunteer- always helping her family, friends, and her church community. While not serving others, she enjoyed solving puzzles, watching Hallmark movies, and traveling with her many church groups and family. She will be remembered for her spirit of evangelism, servant hood, and zest for life.

Visitation will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February the 12th in the A Building at Woodstock First Baptist Church, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM in the Chapel. Graveside service will take place on Wednesday, February 13th at 1:00 PM at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson, Georgia

In Lieu of Flowers, Charitable Donations may be made to Woodstock First Baptist Church.
