Martha Elizabeth "Libby" (Burnley) Thigpen

Martha Elizabeth "Libby" Burnley Thigpen, 76, of Thomson, Georgia, passed away on August 19, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by family members. She was born on June 6, 1947, in Washington, GA to the late Edgar Truman Burnley and Nada Elizabeth Burnley.

Libby attended Thomson High School, graduating in 1966. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomson. Libby was married to her loving husband Wilbur William Thigpen for fifty-six wonderful years.  

During her life, Libby was a dedicated homemaker who loved and cared for her family.  She was known for her fun-loving attitude, her love for dancing, and helping her husband in the yard.  Libby will be deeply missed by her loved ones and all who had the privilege of knowing her. 

Libby is survived in addition to her husband, Wilbur Thigpen, by her daughter Kimberly Elizabeth Thigpen Wilson and her husband Steven Terry Wilson, her son William Lance Thigpen and his wife Lisha Barkley Thigpen; six grandchildren, Danielle Wilson Boutwell and her husband Justin Allen Boutwell, Steven Noah Wilson and his husband Jared Scott Wilson, Hope Raigan Thigpen, Grace Piper Thigpen, Paul Haddon Thigpen, and Joy Blaise Thigpen; one brother Edgar Lawrence Burnley and his wife Virginia Burnley.

A Celebration of Life service to celebrate Libby's life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 24, 2023, in the Thomson First Baptist Church with Dr. David Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in the Westview Cemetery.
