Thomson - Mrs. Mary Jo Poss Montgomery, 83, widow of Mr. Floyd A. Montgomery, Jr., died peacefully Wednesday, December 20, 2023, in the Thomson Health & Rehab Facility. She was the daughter of the late Bill and Myra Lee Bush.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Montgomery was a native of Habersham County where she leaves behind many lifelong friends. Jo had lived in Thomson for many years and was retired from U.S. Home, Corp. She was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church where she was actively involved in directing the Operation Christmas Child Program.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Mr. Dexter Poss and Mr. Floyd A. Montgomery, Jr. and her son, Cy Poss. Survivors include her three sons, Ty (Janet) Poss and Guy (Kelly) Poss, both of Thomson, and Ky (Adell) Poss, Evans; her sister, Judy (Jack) Garrison, Thomson; her brother, Rodger (Janet) Bush, Clarksville, GA; her 9 grandchildren: Suzanna (Alex) Sutton, Lee Dupree, Haley (Noah) McGowan, Chloe Poss, Wesley and Chad Scruggs, Tres (Emily) Poss, Kylie Poss, and Brady Poss; and 9 great-grandchildren: Aiden, Sarahann, Austin and Sharlotte Sutton, Lee and Lily Dupree, Dex and Dane McGowan, and Charlie Mae Poss.
Being an avid reader, after retirement, Jo opened a gift shop that included a book exchange. The Gift Cottage & Book Exchange was a way for her to share her passion for reading and her love of giving beautifully wrapped gifts to her family and friends. Jo also worked at the Thomson-McDuffie County Library for several years after closing her shop. She loved her family, jewelry, dressing up, and the company of many of her little dogs throughout the years.
Her family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Thomson Health and Rehabilitation, who have taken wonderful care of her the past several years.
