Ned Guillebeau Obituary

Ned Guillebeau, 92,of Thomson, Georgia, died peacefully in his home Friday, June 21, 2024. He graduated Thomson High School in 1949 ,where he lettered in football for four years. Following high school, he served as a radio mechanic with the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Japan during he Korean War. He attained the rank of sergeant and earned the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Bronze Service Medal. In 1953 he married Joyce “Joy” Green from England. She served with the WRNS – Women’s Royal Naval Service during World War II. Ned graduated the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science (Physics) degree in 1957 and worked a variety of engineering jobs including with RCA Lockheed, in Marietta, Georgia and Palmdale, California; and retired after working for the Georgia Public Service Commission. He was commended for saving Georgia taxpayers millions of dollars while working as a utilities engineer at the commission. In retirement, he and Joy travelled widely. She died in 2018. They were happily married for 65 years. Ned played golf, took up snow skiing, worked out at the gym, operated a small pecan farm, learned to sing and he loved to tell stories. His travels included Mexico, England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Switzerland, Bahrain, Qatar, Canada, Bermuda, Germany, Spain, Sardinia, Portugal, Denmark, France, and Japan as well as dozens of U.S. states including Alaska and the Aleutian Islands, and Hawaii. He and Joy have five children: Neil, Melissa, Jennifer, John and Sally (who died in 2023). Ned – or Popeye – and Joy have 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Ned was the son of James W. Guillebeau and Eleanor Guillebeau (Jones) of Thomson. He was predeceased by his brothers, James and twin Ted. A memorial service will be scheduled in the future and his cremains will be interred at Westview Cemetery. Thomson, Georgia.
