Mrs. Nellie Maye Drake Widener McCullough
Melbourne, Fl.- In the early morning hour of April 28, 2024, with her daughter, Pam Evans, by her side, at the age of 89, Maye Widener McCullough left her home to meet the arms of Jesus and awaiting loved ones.
Maye was born in Oglethorpe County, Ga., but had lived the majority of her life in McDuffie County. She retired from the City of Thomson, where she was employed for 24 years. Maye is a founding member of the reopening of Union Baptist Church in Thomson, Ga.
Maye loved nothing more than a lap full of grandbabies and great grandbabies and gathering her family for meals and holidays. As her health declined, she moved to the Melbourne, Fl., area to be closer to her youngest daughter, Pam. She remarried a dear gentleman, Jim McCullough, who preceded her in death. She spent her last years in the home of Pam and Mike Evans, who selflessly provided for her every need and whim. The family is grateful for their sacrifice.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Judge and Lillie Drake, brothers, J.C., Richard, and William Drake, sister, Ann Norris, husband of 52 years, Herbert L. Widener, Sr., children, Debra Wallace and Steve Widener, and grandchildren, Dillon Widener and Drake Widener, and spouse Jim McCullough
Maye is survived by her son, Lane Widener (Angie), daughter, Pam Evans (Mike), son, Skipper Widener (Bonnie) and grandchildren, Brad Wallace (Dawn), Dustin Wallace (Michele), Carrie Bennett (Brian), Kayna Tompkins (Paul), Benji Farr (Lindsey), Chris Dunn (Melanie), Candice Dunn (Drew), Michael Evans, Daniel Evans, and Brenton Widener (Courtney), as well as 23 great- grandchildren.
She will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Don Widener officiating.
If so desired, donations may be made to the Drake Widener Scholarship Fund, 488 Luke Road, Thomson Ga. 30824
