Patricia "Pat" Compton Patrick Obituary

Thomson – Mrs. Patricia “Pat” Compton Patrick, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, entered into rest to be with Jesus on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.  Pat, the daughter of Richard Raymond Compton and Georgia Lee Compton of Atlanta, was born February 14, 1935.

Growing up in Atlanta, Pat attended its public schools and in 1953 graduated from Hapeville High.  She was further educated at North Georgia College, receiving her degree in 1957.   She married her husband of 67 years, Burton DeWayne Patrick, shortly before their graduation and his being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry, US Army.

Pat continued to pursue her chosen profession as an elementary school teacher even as she accompanied her husband around the world in the performance of his military duties. She was an accomplished teacher, blessed with a strong work ethic, a love for children, and a warm personality that endeared her to supervisors, parents, children and a multitude of friends.

The birth of a son, Burton DeWayne Patrick, Jr., led her to choose fulltime parenting while supporting her husband’s military career.  This selfless decision was both wise and visionary in that her son would become a valued member of the kaolin mineral industry and her husband would rise to the rank of Lieutenant General in the US Army.

Pat and her family returned to her husband’s hometown of Thomson, Georgia, upon completion of his thirty-one year military career.  She was an active member of the Thomson Presbyterian Church where she attended her pastor’s weekly sermons with her friends. As a devout Christian, she found strength and solace in her beloved Sunday School Class, supporting missionaries worldwide.

Pat was an avid bridge player, enjoying equally the competition and fellowship with her friends.  Her membership in the Belle Meade and Augusta Country Clubs and the Augusta Bridge Center allowed her to experience and enjoy the cultural life of both Thomson and Augusta, as well as the lives of many people.

The love of Pat’s life was her family, especially her grandchildren.  She was always there for them and relished the ground they walked on.  This devotion filled their hearts for her as well.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Lee Compton, and her stepfather, Paul B. Moore.  She is survived by her loving husband, Lieutenant General (Ret) Burton DeWayne Patrick, Sr.; her son, Burton DeWayne Patrick, Jr. her daughter-in-law, Susan Evans Patrick; her granddaughters, Caitlin Edwards (and son, Ollie) and Erin Cosby Patrick; her two sisters-in-law, Margaret Ann “Rita” Hodgin and husband Jay, and Bonnie Agnes Johnson and husband, Charles; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

A private graveside services will be held, with Pastor Leslie Holmes officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a donation to a church or charity of your choice.
