Mr. Richard Lee Dozier, 81, passed away peacefully at his residence, At Home, on April 17th.
Born in Newport News, Virginia, in 1944 to Thomas Marion and Beulah Lee Robinson Dozier, Richard moved to Thomson, Georgia, at the age of eight. He graduated from Thomson High School in 1962 and from the University of Georgia in 1966. After returning to Thomson, he married the love of his life, Mary McNeill Dozier. Together, they raised four children, whom he adored.
Richard loved his work, He was a talented builder, electrician, and plumber, and he held a license in heating and air. Over the years, he built homes and apartments throughout Thomson and the surrounding areas, leaving a lasting mark on the community he loved.
He was proud of his Virginia roots and often returned to stay in his mother’s childhood home. He and Mary were always up for a good adventure-Munich being a favorite destination, especially for enjoying Oktoberfest and a cold beer. Richard also had a deep appreciation for a good meal, shared with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anne Hawes Dozier. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his brother, Thomas Marion Dozier Jr.; and his four children; Mary Pauline (Molly) McDowell (Jerod), LeeAnne Dozier Coyle, Richard Lee Jr. (Erin), and India Dozier Rows. Richard is also survived by his 11 grandchildren- Clark and Mary Frances McDowell; Witt, Lewis, and George Coyle; Lee, Neilly, Sam, and Ruby Dozier; and Jack and Harry Rows. They were his greatest joy in his later years. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Finally, the family wants to thank two special women, Vera Kelly and Shirley Hill for their love and devotion in his final years.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, April 21, 2025, in Westview Cemetery with Rev. Charles Broome officiating.
