Sandra West Obituary

Dearing -

Sandra Anderson West
“Mama Sandra”

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Ms. Sandra Anderson West, lovingly known as Mama Sandra, on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the age of 81. She passed peacefully at MCG (Wellstar Facility) in Augusta, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and unshakable strength.

Sandra was born in Washington, Georgia, in 1943 to her adoring parents, George Willard Anderson and Bessie Irene McCorkle Anderson. She grew up in McDuffie County, spending most of her cherished years in Dearing, Georgia—a place she lovingly called home.

A proud graduate of Thomson High School, Class of 1961, Sandra dedicated 35 years of her life to the Reedy Creek Division of Thiele Kaolin Company, retiring in 2006. Her commitment to her work was rivaled only by her devotion to her family and community.

To know Mama Sandra was to know the warmth of a home that welcomed everyone. She was the heart of her family, a woman whose kindness extended beyond her circle to strangers, many of whom left as lifelong friends. Her home was never more alive than during the holidays, particularly Christmas, her favorite time of year, when her love for family and tradition shone brightest.

Sandra’s lifelong passion for horses began at the tender age of nine. She found joy and freedom in riding until she was 75, a testament to her adventurous spirit and enduring love for the animals that brought her so much happiness. In honor of her remarkable journey, Sandra’s final ride will take place at her beloved homeplace on November 30, 2024, at 2 p.m., following a celebration of her incredible life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bessie Anderson; her brother, Wayne Anderson; and her beloved son, Brian A. West, Sr.

Sandra’s love lives on in the hearts of her children, Scott (Laura) Hobbs of Augusta, GA; Hal (Esther) Hobbs of Dearing, GA; Keith A. West of Toledo, OH; and her daughter, Lora Hobbs Adams of Camak, GA, as well as her daughter-in-law, Tassie (Brian, Sr) West. She will forever be treasured by her grandchildren: Dana Reese, Brandon Reese, Kaytlin Bowling, Jenna Hobbs, Courtney Adams Smith, Eli West, Madison West, Sam West, Brian A. West, Jr., and Annelessa West; her great-grandchildren: Bailey Taylor, Brittney Allman, Jaycee Bowling, Tucker Ogletree, and Cooper Ogletree; and her great-great-grandchildren, Cason Allman and Sadie Mae West.

Mama Sandra’s legacy is one of unconditional love, unyielding generosity, and an open heart that touched everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a tapestry of memories woven with laughter, strength, and compassion.

Her family invites all who loved her to join in celebrating her life and honoring her memory.
