Dearing - Mrs. Shirley Ann Welch Carithers, 84, daughter of Jim Earl Welch and Lizzie Beth Inglett, died Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Piedmont / Augusta Hospital. She is the wife of the late William Burch Carithers of Dearing.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Kenneth Welch officiating.
Mrs. Carithers attended Dearing High School, where she was a cheerleader for her favorite basketball player, Billy. Shirley grew up in Dearing and worked for many years at Thomson Company in Thomson, Ga. Once she and Billy had children, she became a stay at home Mom. She took great pride in her children, home, and yard. She loved her azaleas and roses. Her greatest hobby was fishing. She actually jumped in the lake one day to ensure she didn’t lose a trophy bass. She retrieved it and had it mounted. Funny thing was she didn’t know how to swim. She made sure that Billy and her kids were provided for everyday.
She is survived by her children, Sheri Taylor (Darrell Patterson), Dearing and Susan Hunt (Jimmy), Harlem: 5 grandchildren, G.W. Taylor (John Godwin), Thomson, Melanie Barger (Justin), Dearing, Elizabeth Hunt (Aaron Lovejoy), Grovetown, James Hunt (Rebecca), Thomasville, Ga., and Julia Barron (Jared), Grovetown; 5 great-grandchildren, Ansley Barger, Payton Barger, Kayleigh Roberts, Kasie Barron, and Gabriel Barron; and her favorite nephew, Dennis Phillips, Dearing.
If you attend her service please bring a memory to share. In her memory go fishing.
