Dearing – Mr. William (Billy) Burch Carithers 82, son of Robert Edward Lee Carithers and Edna Jane Howard Carithers, died Friday, January 21, 2022, in the Augusta University Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Carithers graduated from Dearing High School. He was a gentle giant, standing at 6’6”. He played basketball for Dearing High School, where he averaged 26 points per game and as a junior, he once scored 47 points against Evans. He also played baseball for Dearing and then on a travel team that was also out of Dearing. He proudly served 7 years in the National Guard. He loved his family more than life itself. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his kids and grandkids. His children have fond memories of camping and fishing with him all summer long. His life career was in construction, where he built homes for many families throughout the CSRA. Later in his career, he remained active in the building community, digging footings for several builders in the area. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and two brothers, Huey Carithers and Robert Carithers, Sr. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Shirley Welch Carithers; 3 sisters, AnnieRuth Clark, Linda Whitaker and Sandra Church; 2 daughters, Susan Hunt (Jimmy), Harlem and Sheri Taylor (Darrel Patterson), Dearing; 5 grandchildren, GW Taylor (John Godwin), Thomson; Melanie Taylor (Justin Barger), Dearing; Elizabeth Hunt (Aaron Lovejoy), Grovetown; James “Cody” Hunt (Rebecca McIver), Thomasville, and Julia Hunt Barron (Jared), Grovetown; and 7 great-grandchildren;, Ansley Barger, Payton Barger, Kasie Barron, Gabriel Barron, Kaleigh Roberts, Taylor Lovejoy and Jordan Lovejoy.
